Kapha

Kapha Balancing Diet

Favor

Reduce/Avoid

General

Warm temperature food and drink, light (not very rich), primarily bitter, pungent and astringent tastes.

Sweet, Salty, Sour tastes

Microwaved foods, leftovers, frozen foods

  Vegetables

Use seasonal vegetables, ideally organic.

Artichoke, arugula, asparagus, beets, bell peppers, bitter melon, bok choy, broccoli, carrots, celery, chili peppers, chives, cilantro, collards, corn, endive, fennel, green beans, green chilies, kale, kohlrabi, landcress, leafy greens, lettuce, leeks, mustard greens, okra, onions, parsley, peppers (hot), radish, rutabaga, scallions, shallots, spinach, sprouts, turnips, watercress, wheat grass. 

Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, mushrooms,  olives, peas, potatoes,  pumpkin, squash, sweet potato, raw tomato (cooked is ok occasionally), yams,  zucchini 

Fruit

Use seasonal fruits, ideally organic.

Apples, apricots, cherries, dried fruit, grapes, guava, lemons, limes, mango, peaches, pears, persimmon, pomegranate, prunes, quince, raisin, strawberries, tangerines, tamarind.

High pesticide fruits like grapes and berries.

Avocado, bananas, coconut, cranberries, dates, figs (dried is ok), grapefruit, melons, oranges, papaya, pineapple, plums, watermelon.

Don’t mix fruit with any other food, especially dairy products, eggs or grains.

  Grains

Amaranth, barley, blue corn, bran, brown rice, buckwheat, cereals, corn, couscous, durham flour, granola, millet, muesli, oat bran, oats, polenta, quinoa, rye, spelt, sprouted wheat, tapioca, wheat bran.

Bread, oatmeal, pasta, rice flour, wheat, white rice, whole wheat flour.

Beans

Black beans, black-eyed peas, chick peas, lentils, lima beans, mung beans, mung dal, peas, pinto beans, tur dal, white beans 

Dairy

Low fat milk, Goat milk cooked with Turmeric and cardamom. Ghee

Unsweetened Organic soy milk and Almond milk

Too much dairy, yogurt at night, cheese.

Goat products are better

Meat

Chicken, turkey

Pork, red meat, seafood.

Oils

Ghee, olive oil, sesame oi

Butter, other oils

Fried food

Spices

All spices are ok

Salt


Sweeteners

Raw agave nectar, raw uncooked honey, stevia

Aspartame, chocolate, cooked honey, high fructose corn syrup, processed sugar, white sugar.


Nuts

Less nuts. Only pealed almonds, walnuts and pistachios


Beverages

Aloe vera juice, coffee, fruit juice, hot goat milk, rice milk, soy milk, tea, yerba mate.

Alcohol, chocolate milk, cold milk, soda, sparkling water

Coffee is ok once a day, but not on an empty stomach

Avoid cold drinks in general.
