Vata

Vata Balancing Diet

General

Warm or room temperature food and drink, primarily sweet, a little bit salty (rock salt only) and sour tastes

 

Cold food and drink, primarily Pungent (hot), Astringent and bitter tastes

Microwaved foods, leftovers, frozen foods

 

 

 

 

Vegetables

Use seasonal vegetables, ideally organic.

Asparagus, beets, cabbage (cooked), carrots, cauliflower (cooked), cilantro, cucumber, fennel, green beans, green chilies, leafy greens, leeks, lettuce, mustard greens, okra,  black olives, onions (cooked), parsley, parsnip, peas, potatoes, pumpkin, radishes, rutabaga, squash, sweet potato, tomato, zucchini

Raw vegetables in general.

Artichoke, bitter melon, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage (raw), cauliflower (raw), celery, corn, eggplant, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, green olives, onions (raw), peppers, potatoes, spinach, tomatoes (cooked), turnips, wheat grass spouts

 

 

 

 Fruit

Use seasonal fruits, ideally organic.

Apples, apricots, avocados, berries, cherries, coconut, dates, figs, grapefruit, grapes, lemons, limes, mangoes, melon, oranges, papaya, peaches, plums, pomegranate, prunes, raisins, rhubarb, strawberries, tamarind

 

Dried or sour fruits in general.

Apples (raw), bananas, cranberries, dates (dry), figs (dry), kiwis,  pears, pineapple, pomegranate, raisins (dry), prunes (dry), watermelon.

 Grains

Barley, brown rice, oats, wheat

Buckwheat, corn, millet, rye

 Beans

Chickpeas, mung beans, pink lentils, tofu (small amounts)

Avoid too many beans.


Dairy

 

Favor all, especially goat milk, almond milk

Yogurt, especially at night.

 

 

Meat

 

 

Chicken, lamb, turkey. All in small quantity

Allspice, anise, basil, bay leaf, black pepper, caraway, cardamom, cilantro, cinnamon, clove, cumin, fennel, garlic,  ginger, juniper berries, licorice root, mace, marjoram, mustard, nutmeg, oregano, sage, tarragon, thyme, turmeric

 

Coriander seed, fenugreek, parsley, saffron

Sweeteners

All, except as noted.

Aspartame, processed sugar, white sugar
